The full course duration is 2 Days:

  • Day 1 – Electrofusion theory and practical
  • Day 2 – Butt Fusion theory and practical

On having been assessed as fully competent you will be issued with a jointing card and personalised welding number which is valid for 3 years.

Unit Standard:

We offer the following Unit Standard that is Water Industry and NZQA recognised:

Unit Standard 31532 – Demonstrate Knowledge of Fusion Jointing of Polyethylene Pipes for Water Networks – Level 4 qualification – 5 credits.

Unit Standard 31532 is a pre-requisite to the two Unit Standards below:

Unit Standard 31525 – Carry Out Electrofusion Jointing on Polyethylene Pipes for Water Networks – Level 4 – 10 credits, and

Unit Standard 31524 – Carry out Butt Fusion Jointing on Polyethylene Pipes for Water Networks – Level 4 – 10 credits.

Both these 2 Unit Standards require evidence gathered from your worksites and submitted for assessment.  On successfully completing these Unit Standard(s), a jointing card will be issued.  Please discuss with us if you wish to complete either one or both of these 2 additional Unit Standards.

Refreshers

1/2 day Electrofusion Refresher Course:  To keep trainees up to date with the latest techniques, tooling and procedures to complete fusion welding on infrastructure work sites. On having been assessed as fully competent you will be issued with a refresher jointing card which is valid for 3 years.

1/2 day Butt Fusion Refresher Course:  To keep trainees up to date with the latest techniques, tooling and procedures to complete fusion welding on infrastructure work sites. On having been assessed as fully competent you will be issued with a refresher jointing card which is valid for 3 years.

Practical Training

We offer specialised training and assessing of Polyethylene pipe jointing by our Mito and Connexis Assessor.

We offer a professional training course which is clearly defined, structured and designed for the different levels of practical experience and requirements of participants.

Learning on Location

We are prepared to complete our training course at your place of business and conduct practical training in the various fusion and jointing methods. The training duration and programme depends on the actual project and the system to be installed.

Who would benefit?

Personnel involved in the utilities construction sector. It is recommended for contractors, engineers, Local Authorities and consultants. This course recognises the skills and knowledge required to perform electrofusion and butt-fusion jointing using polyethylene pipe and fittings.

What is covered?

Conditions and requirements when jointing polyethylene pipe, including storing and handling polyethylene pipe, PE tooling and equipment for butt-fusion and electrofusion.

Prepare for and perform electrofusion socket and saddle jointing and butt-fusion jointing; and complete required reports and documentation.

Practical Assessment

Practical assessment is carried out at the training facility in accordance with:

  • POP001: Electrofusion jointing for PE pipe and fittings
  • POP003: Butt Fusion Jointing of PE Pipes and Fittings – Recommended Parameters
  • POP005: Packaging, Handling and Storage of Polyethylene Pipes and Fittings all available at http://www.pipa.com.au/POPs.html

Sample joints are visually examined and tested during the course.

Trainer

Tony Wall is a registered assessor for the gas distribution industry and  for Connexis and has more than 35 years’ experience in both electro-fusion and butt-fusion jointing.

He has conducted training sessions for the gas distribution industry throughout New Zealand for the last 15 years.

Course cost

  • Butt-fusion jointing $350.00 (South Island $400.00) Duration is 1 day.
  • Electro-fusion jointing for sockets and saddles $350.00. (South Island $400.00) Duration is 1 day.

Course will only run when at least 8 people (Full time) are attending for each day. Please note course numbers are limited

  • Refreshers are conducted on the second day of the course and are $210.00. (South Island $225.00) for Electro fusion and $210.00. (South Island $225.00) For Butt Fusion.

  • If you have theory and practical facilities of your own we can also come to you for training at your own premises and at a time that suits you.
